Second graders are geologists. Students are learning that geologists discover, listen, think, read, and write. This week they are learning that geologists also measure. In order to participate in our five stations about Earth's crust, second graders first needed to review measurement. The class started with a mini-lesson about measuring with a ruler using the SMARTBoard. Next, they observed how to weigh rocks using pan balances and gram weights. Second graders are learning that math is a subject that is important in science, as well as their everyday life.
As an introduction to the geology unit, students researched a topic about geology, created iMovies, and shared these with the class. To watch these iMovies, click on the teacher's name above to view the iMovies for each class.
